Iranian films win awards at Belgrade festival

TEHRAN, Nov. 26 (MNA) -- The Iranian films “Deep Breath” and “Turtles Can Fly” received awards at the 11th Auteur Film Festival in Belgrade on Thursday.

Director Parviz Shahbazi’s “Deep Breath” won the best film award while Bahman Qobadi’s “Turtles Can Fly” received the best cinematography award of the festival, which was held from November 19 to 25.

 

“Deep Breath” won the best screenplay award at the 21st Fajr International Film Festival, which was held in February 2003 in Tehran, and was also the only film representing Iran in the category of Best Foreign Language Films at the 76th Annual Academy Awards.

 

“Turtles Can Fly” has had outstanding success at international festivals this year and will be competing in the Best Foreign Language Films category at the 77th Annual Academy Awards, which is to be held on February 27, 2005 in Los Angeles.

 

Mohsen Amir-Yusefi’s “Bitter Dream” was another Iranian film screened at the Belgrade festival, but it did not win any prizes.
